District-5 pulled to .500 on the season by closing out their first ever meeting with No ReGretzkys 9-8 in extra time. Thursday’s game went back and forth with both teams gaining and losing leads. In a lengthy match packed with penalty minutes, goals and physicality, D-5 was able to seal the victory in a shootout after losing an 8-6 lead in the third period.
Nick Wujek (3G, 2A) and Chris Amon (2G, 2A) lead the way for the Ducks in the high scoring affair, with Kyle Henahan (1G, 2 A), John Amon (1G, 2A) and Mike Slugocke (3A) chipping in with 3 points each. Goaltender Joe Fornarotto (21SV, 29 SA) made big saves when needed to keep his team in the game and stopped 2 of 4 shooters in the shootout. Nick Marone was at one point seen tearing down the wing at full speed intimidating the opposition, and was able to score his first goal of the season. Chris Ganley also got himself on the scoresheet this season with an assist. Shootout goals by Henahan, Wujek and Chris Devlin (with his family in attendance!) helped the webbed waterfowl edge ReGretzkys 3-2 to earn the victory.
D-5 is back in action this Thursday as they face off against a much-improved Motley Crew at 9:15 PM at Jersey Shore Arena. Tickets to the game are available on a limited basis and can be obtained by visiting the ticket booth at Nobody Beats the Wiz.
